Case study 02 — Building & Public Works
Boreholes and access to water
Water boreholes drilled in rural areas: intake structure, pumping equipment, superstructure and commissioning.
- Year
- 2023 — 2025
- Location
- Côte d’Ivoire, outside Abidjan
- Division
- Building & Public Works
The context
Outside the areas served by the mains, access to water governs everything else: whether a building can be used, whether a site can be worked, whether a place of business can live. A borehole that is poorly equipped or poorly signed off degrades within one season, and there is no one on hand to put it right.
The hard part is not the drilling, it is what comes after: the equipment, the seal at the wellhead, and whether the users can maintain the pump themselves.
The brief Hand over a water point in service, with a protected structure and maintenance instructions that can be followed without outside help.
What was delivered
- 01 Intake structure, casing and sealed wellhead.
- 02 Pumping equipment, rising main and connections, installed and tested under load.
- 03 Masonry apron and superstructure, drained area around the draw-off point.
- 04 Commissioning, flow test, and handover of day-to-day maintenance instructions to the users.
The outcome
Water points handed over in service, with their superstructure and their drained apron. The volumes and flow rates recorded at handover are not published here: they appear in the completion reports, released on request as part of a supplier file.
